The Advisory Council of the National Alliance of African & African American Art Support Groups held a strategic planning work session July 15-17, 2009 in Washington, DC titled “Our New Direction,” during which attendees discussed the future direction of the national organization and the past ten successful years. The Advisory Council work session was organized by Carolyn Adams & Associates.

Advisory Council Work Session: Past ten conference conveners met to strategize on the future of the national organization. Advisory Council members are from art support groups at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Virginia Museum of Fine Arts; Milwaukee Art Museum; Baltimore Museum of Art & the Walters Art Museum; New Orleans Museum of Art; Taft Museum of Art & the Cincinnati Museum of Art; St. Louis Art Museum; High Museum of Art; Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA); and Cleveland Art Museum. Dr. Ruth Fine of the National Gallery of Art led a private tour of the National Gallery’s African American print collection; Driskell Center deputy director Dorit Yaron led a private tour of the David C. Driskell Center permanent collection of African & African American art; Dr. Karen Milbourne, curator of African art at the National Museum of African Art, led a private tour following a special greeting by Dr. Johnetta Cole, Director of the NMAFA; and Dr. Lonnie Bunch, founding Director of the National Museum of African American History & Culture, presented the successful architectural plans by the Freelon Group for the new NMAAHC building, the last addition to the National Mall.
